BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Availiable to The Public

An unofficial version of BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has been leaked and it is compatible with most BlackBerry smartphones. The new software offers a host of improved features for the mobile messaging maniacs out there.

If you are a heavy user of the BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging client, the new 5.0 version is something to get excited about. It can be downloaded here, and is compatible with nearly all BlackBerry models, including the Tour, the Storm, the 8900 and the Bold.

The biggest change is an entirely new user interface and layout. Users can now add and edit avatars at will. They can also control location and status messages with better tools.

Another really cool new feature is a barcode that can be used to add new contacts. Each user is assigned an individual 2D barcode, which can then be scanned by another BlackBerry and automatically add the contact data of the person's barcode. BlackBerry Messenger Contacts can also be linked to the phone's main contact application, making it easier to keep tabs on your contacts.

Perhaps the best feature, is that BlackBerry Messenger contacts lists can not be backed up to either the storage card of the phone's main memory. Restoring them is easy.

There is a new Broadcast Message feature, which enables users to blast out the same message to multiple messenger contacts at the same time.

The download is free and they are available here.

If you want the best that BlackBerry Messaging has to offer, I highly recommend you check it out.
